What changed, when it took effect, and who it affects.
April 3, 2025
Interlock time now counts toward license forfeiture (P.L. 2025, c. 41)
If you must forfeit your license, you get 1 day of credit for every 2 days you drive with an ignition interlock. It applies to offenses on or after April 3, 2025, but not when the violation caused serious bodily injury.
February 19, 2024
Pre-conviction interlock and new suspension and interlock periods (P.L. 2023, c. 191)
After a DWI arrest, you may voluntarily install an interlock in one vehicle before any conviction. The law also changed license suspension lengths for DWI and refusal, lengthened some interlock periods, and extended the 2019 interlock law to January 1, 2029.
